Evaluating Tools For Developing Effective Teamwork
Your Team You will work on your course project in teams of five or six. Your team will accomplish many tasks to successfully finish your project. You have some experience working on teams or with partners in previous courses. You may have been considering and planning whom you want to work with. How we select design teams in the course progression is important and worthy of comment. Increasingly, students participate in team selection to enhance their learning. Exposure to multiple perspectives, thinking styles, and peer interaction supports the ability to form and manage highly productive teams. In this course, we examine tools for developing effective teamwork to better support your design experience. Task One: Select team members with adequate and complementary skills to complete your project. In CH E 464, students fill out a questionnaire. Students self select into pairs, and pairs are combined into teams to complete lab and project activities. Teams are formed, in part, on the basis of survey responses to distribute skills and experiences among teams. Your CH E 464 experience has given you some insights about yourself, potential teammates and the team selection process. In CH E 435/465, teams are self-selected, and feedback processes are more like a work environment. We expect you will be strategic in your team selection and make use of the tools available to do so.
